Paid Internship
Companies participating in the SAGE Scholars Program have established paid multi-year internships for one or more SAGE Scholars. The internships provide students with valuable work experience and practical knowledge to complement their academic studies.
During the internships, SAGE Scholars work full-time during the summer (40 hours per week) and part-time during the academic year (10 to 15 hours per week). Summer internships last at least 10 weeks. Academic year internships generally start in early October until mid-June. Companies pay students a competitive wage for actual hours worked based upon the student's experience level and the type of work required for the position. Wages range from $10 to $20 per hour.
Each company is free to structure the details of its particular internship program but there are two fundamental requirements for a SAGE Scholar internship:
(a) each intern must be assigned a mentor within the company ( See section on Mentoring ); and
(b) each intern must receive meaningful work assignments.
Ideally, a SAGE Scholar will rotate through different departments within the sponsoring company so the student can acquire expertise in various business areas.
These internships start the summer after the students take their first SAGE course at UCI and continue until graduation (but not to exceed a total of three years). In the spring prior to graduation, SAGE Scholars who have successfully completed their internships can interview for full-time positions with their sponsoring companies. Please note that there is no obligation on the part of the interns or the company regarding full-time employment following graduation.
